EARLY VOTING

Early voting allows voters to cast a ballot at any early voting site before the election. This can be done on select days prior to Election Day. This is different from Election Day, where registered voters can only vote at their assigned precinct. Each early voting site has all the ballot styles for a given election.

During the early voting period, voters may also register to vote and proceed to vote as long as sufficient proof of name and address is provided. When you present to vote at an early voting site, registered voters may also update their registration for name or address changes.

All voters at early voting sites will be asked to show a photo ID, just as on Election Day. Learn More About Photo ID Requirements

Unable to Vote in Person?  Registered voters may use the Vote by Mail option. Requests to Vote by Mail must be submitted to the Board of Elections by October 29th at 5pm. Vote by Mail ballots may be returned (With a copy of your Photo ID) by mail or hand-delivered to the Cabarrus County Board of Elections office or at any early voting site during voting hours. Learn More About Voting by Mail. You can find out when your vote is counted in the “Your Absentee Ballot” section of the Voter Search database. Under North Carolina law, all early votes — by-mail or in-person — are considered absentee votes. Your ballot status also will show up in the “Voter History” section as soon as your county completes the post-election process of assigning voter history to your record.

ELECTION DAY

Polling places will open at 6:30am on November 5th and will remain open until 7:30pm. Any registered voter in line at their assigned polling place by 7:30pm will retain their privilege to vote no matter how many persons are in line at the deadline.

Cabarrus County registered voters may only vote on Election Day at their assigned polling place. This differs from early voting, where eligible individuals may cast a ballot at any early voting site in their county. Appearing at the wrong precinct, failing to be a registered voter, or failing to present a photo ID on election day will require the voter to submit a provisional ballot. After election day, election officials will research the details of the provisional ballot. Only if a provisional application is approved will the voter’s provisional ballot be removed from the sealed envelope and their ballot counted.
