The Cabarrus County Republican Party Executive Committee has recommended Ian William Patrick, Harrisburg Town Councilman, to fill the vacant seat on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners.

Cabarrus County is experiencing rapid growth, and with it comes the responsibility to plan wisely for the future. Mr. Patrick’s exceptional professional and civic experience provides the Board of Commissioners with a fresh perspective on regional, long‑term planning.

“Ian Patrick brings a unique blend of professional expertise and civic leadership at a time when Cabarrus County is experiencing unprecedented growth,” said Chairman Lanny Lancaster. “His vision and skill set will help ensure that our county invests wisely in schools and infrastructure while preserving the values that make Cabarrus strong.”

Vice‑Chair Jim Quick added, “The Executive Committee was impressed by the caliber of all 16 of our applicants, but Ian Patrick stood out for his ability to think strategically about long‑term planning. His experience will be invaluable as Cabarrus County continues to grow and we work together to strengthen our community.”

Patrick’s background as an architect, business leader, and public servant provides the Board of Commissioners with a fresh perspective on regional, long‑term planning as Cabarrus County contemplates critical investments in schools, infrastructure, and community development. He is currently serving in his second term as a Harrisburg Town Councilman.

Ian is currently serving in his second term on the Harrisburg Town Council. He was reappointed in March 2024 to fill a vacant seat, after having first won his 4-year seat by election in 2019. He also currently serves as the Chair of the Harrisburg Board of Adjustment.

The Charlotte Business Journal awarded Patrick recognition on their Charlotte Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list in 2022 for his business success, community involvement, leadership ability, and regional influence.

Ian Patrick currently serves on the Board of Construction Professionals Network of North Carolina (CPN). He is also the current Chair of Construction Professionals Network Institute (CPNI), the educational and research non-profit arm of CPN of North Carolina.

He is a member of the Cabarrus Chamber and the NCEDA (North Carolina Economic Development Association), the leading statewide organization for professional economic developers, promoting policies, programs and professional standards that strengthen the state’s economy. Patrick has also served as an alternate representative for the Centralina Regional Council, which provides training, research, and outreach programs to advance knowledge of construction and development practices.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture (2007) and a Bachelor of Architecture (2009) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and is currently a licensed Architect in North and South Carolina. He is a former member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and previously served as USGBC Board Vice-Chair.

Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute § 153A‑27.1, the Cabarrus County Republican Party Executive Committee has submitted its recommendation to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners to appoint Ian Patrick to serve the remainder of the unexpired term of Commissioner Lynn Shue. We expect the board to take its statutory action on our recommendation as soon as possible.

Ian lives in Harrisburg with his wife, Erin, and their two children.
