A special May Meeting with Senator Paul Newton to discuss a pending NC Health Works bill in the NC Senate focused on Medicaid Expansion. For years the Republican Party has stood against expanding Medicaid but now leaders in the State Senate have indicated they are strongly considering legislation that would expand Medicaid coverage to hundreds of thousands of additional low-income adults.

North Carolina is one of a dozen states that have not expanded Medicaid. According to Associated Press, the draft bill which has not yet been filed would cover adults with income of up to 138% of federal poverty guidelines, likely covering at least 600,000 additional North Carolinians.

Please come out on Friday night to engage in a community discussion on the NC Health Works bill and provide feedback to Senator Newton ahead of important committee hearings and votes in the Senate.
