OFFICIAL DELEGATES & ALTERNATE DELEGATES

On February 28th, the Credentials Committee released the following names as Delegates, Alternate Delegates and Overages (Extra Delegates) to the Convention. A delegate must be 18 years old and registered as a Republican on January 31st.  The delegates were voted on during the February 15th precinct meeting and must serve in the precinct that matches their voter registration on January 31st.

If you have questions about your status please contact our Credential Committee Chairwoman, Naomi Hatchell via email at [email protected]. It is helpful to include your legal name and address (matching your voter registration) your precinct number and a contact phone number & email.

FAQ

Who may attend the convention?  All registered Republicans may attend the convention using a guest credential.  If you attended the precinct meetings on February 15th or submitted an absence request, you may have been elected as a convention delegate or alternate.  The official list of credentialed delegates and alternates will be published before the convention.

What happens at a county political convention? County political conventions are vibrant gatherings that play a crucial role in shaping local politics. It's quite an experience! Here's a rundown of what typically happens:

  1. Delegates and Attendees: Party members and local activists gather to represent their communities and discuss pressing political issues.

  2. Speeches and Debates: Candidates for local offices, party leaders, and other notable figures deliver speeches to rally support and outline their platforms. There can be lively debates on key issues.

  3. Policy Resolutions: Delegates discuss and vote on resolutions that outline the party’s stance on various issues. These resolutions can influence the party's official platform at higher levels.

  4. Candidate Speeches: The convention often hears from announced future candidates for local, state, and national offices and will also welcome elected officials to deliver remarks.

  5. Networking and Campaigning: It’s a prime opportunity for networking and grassroots organizing. Campaign materials are distributed, and attendees work to build support for their candidates and causes.

  6. Elections: Internal party elections are held to choose local party leaders (odd-numbered years) and delegates for district and state conventions. During presidential years, national conventions.

  7. Entertainment and Socializing: Attendees often arrive early to take advantage of social activities, meals, and networking to foster camaraderie among party members.

Why is there a fee to attend the convention? As per the NCGOP Plan of Organization: "For each person who is elected at a County Convention to be either a Delegate or an Alternate to the State Convention, the County shall forward to the State Party a fee set by the State Central Committee to defray the costs of mailing Convention materials to such elected Delegates and Alternates. A County Plan of Organization may permit the County Party to recover this fee from the Delegates and Alternates following their election. In addition, each County Chairman, with the advice and consent of his respective County Executive Committee, shall be authorized to assess a reasonable delegate fee, in addition to the fee identified above, to defray the costs and expenses of conducting the County Convention." The advance convention registration fee is only $5 to encourage pre-registration and a smooth credentialing process.  You may elect to register at the door - the same-day registration fee is $20.

What if my name is not on the official list published by the credentials committee? Article III.A.1.a of the Cabarrus County Plan of Organization calls for the County Credentials Committee to issue its report on Delegates and Alternates certified to the County Convention at least 3 days in advance of the convening of the County Convention. When Precinct Meetings are held before the date of the County Convention, all Delegates and Alternates challenged in the report of the Credentials Committee shall be notified prior to the Convention and allowed to present their case to the Credentials Committee before convening the Convention.  Every Delegate or Alternate status and age must be verified prior to the convention.

Did you know the Convention is held on Pancake Day?  Unfortunately, our 2025 Convention will fall on the same day as Concord's Boys and Girls Club annual Pancake Day fundraiser. Our convention grew beyond the capacity of our Executive Committee's December venue reservation to hold the convention at the Kannapolis Laureate Center. Few venues in our county can accommodate the 410 Delegates, 147 Alternates and extras, speakers, and NCGOP officials and other guests who have requested to attend the convention. Many of our county's larger venues are already scheduling events in calendar year 2027, and all school auditoriums our committee attempted to utilize are already booked for school plays, band performances, or other school-related events. To provide adequate notice and to encourage Republicans from throughout Cabarrus County to attend, we selected a venue option that would comfortably support all our convention attendees and keep costs to a minimum. Our backup location could have supported all guests on March 6th; however, we chose to forgo that backup venue to provide more notice to Republicans. The second venue also provided logistical challenges because the large projected attendance would require alternates and guests to be seated in an alternate overflow room. Our committee opted to unify the party in one room, fully realizing it would, unfortunately, stack on top of pancakes. We encourage Republicans to support the club by enjoying breakfast (starting at 6 AM), lunch, or early supper at the Boys & Girls Club in Concord or donate to their cause if your schedule prohibits participation at the convention and the annual fundraiser.
