
The North Carolina General Assembly will begin its bicameral legislative session of the state government of North Carolina on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025 with a Swearing-In Ceremony for the State House and State Senate members at noon at the North Carolina State Legislative Building in Raleigh.

State House Leadership for 2025-26 Session
- Rep. Brendan Jones was named majority leader, replacing Rep. John Bell (R-Wayne), who will become chair of the House Rules, Calendar, and Operations Committee in 2025.
- Rep. Steve Tyson (R-Craven) will be deputy majority leader, Jones's current position.
- Rep. Mitchell Setzer (R-Catawba) will serve as speaker pro tem. He replaces Rep. Sarah Stevens (R-Surry), who has held that spot since 2017.
- Rep. Carl Gillespie (R-Macon) was reelected as the House whip.
- Reps. Matthew Winslow (R-Franklin) and Jeff Zenger (R-Forsyth) were elected co-chairs of the Conference Committee. Reps. Jarrod Lowery (R-Robeson) and Erin Paré (R-Wake) currently hold those positions.
- Rep. Harry Warren (R-Rowan) will continue to serve as the caucus joint liaison with the Senate.
- Rep. Heather Rhyne (R-Lincoln) will be the freshman House leader, and Rep. Blair Eddins (R-Wilkes) will be the freshman House whip.
- Finally, 37-year-old Rep. Destin Hall (R-Caldwell) was elected as North Carolina’s next speaker of the House.
State Senate Leadership for 2025-26 Session
- Sen. Ralph Hise of Mitchell County will serve for another term as deputy president pro tempore
- Sen. Paul Newton of Cabarrus County was re-elected as majority leader.

Carl Ford of Rowan County will remain as Republican Joint Caucus Leader.
- Sens. Amy Galey of Alamance County and Todd Johnson of Union County will serve as caucus whips. In the prior session, Tom McInnis of Richmond County and Jim Perry of Lenoir County held the roles.
- Sen. Phil Berger was elected to his eighth two-year term as Senate President Pro Tempore
