Summer Training Camp
Join our Summer Training Camp - Building Effective Teams to Deliver Superior Results
Cabarrus Center for Innovation | 57 Union Street S, Concord
We’ve all had moments in our lives where we must stop and say, “Wow, is this really happening?” Imagine what Coach Matt Doherty was thinking when he was suddenly forced to resign as head basketball coach at UNC-Chapel Hill. He found himself sitting at home less than two years after he was named AP National Coach of the Year in his first season as the Tar Heels coach. His share of the 2001 regular season ACC Championship and his lifelong contributions to the University stood in contrast to his leadership communication style that was contributing to student-athlete transfers. Be sure to come out to hear Coach’s remarkable story of making strength from difficult moments in life by finding yourself, forgiveness and grace.
★ From Coach of the Year to the Unemployment Line ★
With the primary elections and vacation season behind us, it is time to gear up for the battle ahead in the General Election. Coach is inviting each of you to our Summer Training Camp, where he will lead a discussion on Building Effective Teams to Deliver Superior Results.
This special meeting is for EVERY CANDIDATE & THEIR TEAM of volunteers looking to build an effective team to win in November. Looking to join the team by helping Republicans win this fall? This night is for you! The session will also be helpful for candidates and their team of volunteers who are recovering from a difficult primary election season. Coach brings his life leadership lessons on Rebounding: From Pain to Passion to Cabarrus County for this one-night free event.
Matt Doherty played and coached basketball at the University of North Carolina. He started on the 1982 National Championship team with NBA greats Michael Jordan & James Worthy with legendary coach Dean Smith.
Matt went on to coach college basketball. He was the head coach at Notre Dame before returning to UNC to take over the program. Since his time at Chapel Hill, Coach Doherty has worked as the head coach at Florida Atlantic University and Southern Methodist University. He also worked at ESPN, the Indiana Pacers, and the Atlantic 10 Conference.
In his best-selling book, Rebound: From Pain to Passion – Leadership, Coach Doherty provides a game plan to help each of us navigate the rough terrain of leadership and being a team player. He will share his authentic journey, engaging you with riveting stories of tremendous successes and……failures! Coach Doherty chose to turn his “Pain into Passion” - He went on a leadership journey studying at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Along with the help of top leadership executives, Matt learned many valuable lessons that he will share with you in person and in his book.
Matt is now an executive coach and travels the nation giving keynote speeches about leadership and teambuilding. Coach is a frequent guest on the Brett Winterble Show afternoons on WBT AM/FM Radio in Charlotte when he is in town. He also has a 10-episode leadership podcast on the station. You can also hear Matt on the ACC Network, where he is a consultant broadcasting games.
