When Will NC Democrats Stand Up For Women's Sports?
Cabarrus County Representative Diamond Staton-Williams, Governor Roy Cooper, and the North Carolina Democratic Party stood in the way of a bill last year that simply said biological males should not be eligible to participate in women's sports.
Despite Rep. Diamond Staton Williams voting against the bill and Cooper vetoing HB 574, the determination of the General Assembly Republicans prevailed, and they successfully overrode his misguided action.
This month, the 2024 Paris Olympics featured an athlete previously barred from women's boxing competition from having male chromosomes who, unsurprisingly, dominated the bout.
North Carolina's own Payton McNabb, who was left paralyzed and with brain damage because of a biological male in her girls' volleyball match, has courageously spoken about the dangers she's experienced first hand.
This issue is no less critical now. We must send Cabarrus candidates Jonathan Almond, Brian Echevarria, and Grant Campbell to the General Assembly to save women's sports in North Carolina. The fact is that Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, Roy Cooper, Josh Stein, and Democrats across North Carolina refuse to stand up for one of their own constituents. Their silence defies common sense on an issue 70% of Americans agree on.
"Democrats are beholden to radical special interests even when their positions are woefully out of step with what most Americans believe," said NCGOP Communications Director Matt Mercer. "President Trump and Republicans are committed to saving the future of women's sports and stopping misguided Democrat policies, like the Biden-Harris rewrite of Title IX."
